Internationally Acclaimed Composer Dan Forrest
Offers Singers and Choirs a Rare Opportunity at FestivalSouth
Internationally acclaimed Dan Forrest invites church choirs and singers from the Pinebelt region to join him at FestivalSouth® on Saturday, June 12 at 3 p.m. in the Thomas Fine Arts Auditorium on the campus of William Carey University (WCU). A guest of the Meistersingers and sponsored by WCU, he will be accompanying each group and providing insights into each of his works. The afternoon will also offer a culminating mass-choir singing of his masterful and inspiring arrangement of “How Great Thou Art.” Registration to participate must be completed by May 21, 2021.
Dan Forrest has been described as having “an undoubted gift for writing beautiful music that is truly magical” (NY Concert Review). His compositions have become well established in the repertoire of choirs all over the world, through both compelling singular offerings and major choral-orchestral works Requiem for the Living (2013), Jubilate Deo (2016), and LUX: The Dawn From On High (2018).
Forrest’s latest major work, the breath of life (2019), will receive its second ever performance as a FestivalSouth event on Sunday, June 13 with Hattiesburg Concert Association’s own Meistersingers and Dan Forrest collaborating in concert at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Tickets for that event will go on sale in May.
“The music of Dan Forrest leaps into one’s soul at first tone, emotionally connecting both heart and mind through his gift of elegant melodies and evocative harmonies that perfectly mirror the lyrics for which they were meant to bring to life,” said Joseph Wilkinson, Conductor of the Meistersingers. “To perform or hear the music of Dan Forrest is an exquisite experience. For Dan himself to share glimpses into the process and inspiration of his compositions through personal conversation is rare. And, for choral groups to have the chance to sing his music with him accompanying is a moment that will be treasured forever. It is an amazing opportunity of a lifetime to collaborate with such an amazing contemporary artist and composer.
